Fungi
A group of
plants that is important in continuing cycle of nutrients and energy.
What you see in the pictures are the fruiting bodies.
Most of the plant cannot be seen. It is a series of filaments in the soil or in wood.
The fungi have no chlorophyll so must gain their energy from the breakdown of other material. This is similar to the way animals feed.
Some of the fungi join up with algae and create an association where both plants benefit.
