Genealogy
My late Mother Val - here's a photo of her from 1946!!
was very keen on doing research on the ASH and HATTON
families. Click on the link to go to the story that my
mother wrote about her antecedents.
My father, Vern - to be fair here's one of him from
the same time:
was completing some family stories before his untimely death on 18 February 1999. I am now looking after the family history side of things. I have put here the story of his life that unfortunately he never got around to completing. He also wrote stories about his parents that were substantially completed before his death - click on the links for the Fay Ash and Harry Ash stories.
Solitaire
I love a good Solitaire games. The best I have come across are from Randy Rasa.
Backgammon
I am definitely addicted to playing Backgammon - either face to face or on many of the Backgammon Servers. FIBS (the First Internet Backgammon Server - telnet to fibs.com - current IP address 207.21.67.158:4321) is my favourite. My FIBS name is "snowflake". Go here for further backgammon information. I also play BG and cribbage on the Internet Gaming Zone where my name is "snowbusiness" (some rat had already taken snowflake!!).
I was born in Sydney, Australia, on 23 June 1954. I moved to Orange, NSW in 1962 and Cootamundra, NSW in 1968. I finished High School at Coota and moved to Canberra in 1973 to study science at the Australian National University.
A photo of me from that time.... just for a laugh. | |
I graduated from ANU in 1976 with a BSc (Honours in Biochemistry), and completed my PhD in 1980 (research on E. coli ATPase).
I live in the south Canberra suburb of Oxley. I am married to Aileen and have one daughter, Emelia. Here's a picture of them.
Another shot of "my pussycat" from a few years ago...
Here are some more recent photo of Emelia (April 2001) - click on it for an enlargement...) .

I have recently retired (late 2014) from a Senior Principal Research Scientist position with the National Health and Medical Research Council. The Council is responsible for handing out grants to Australia’s health and medical researchers (amongst many other things!). Go to the NHMRC Web site for more details.
